Cactus Creek Chesapeakes has dedicated over a decade to raising, training and competing with Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. We are blessed with dogs whose pedigrees are from some of the best lines for temperament, health, conformation, obedience and hunt competitors, as well as outstanding family companions.
Our dogs live in the house, in the yard, and in the pool. Each is a cherished member of our family.
Puppies are born in my bedroom in a custom whelping box. It is designed to allow them to be housebroken with a dog door by the the time they are weaned. The outside puppy yard is secluded and quiet. Pups are raised in an environment in which stimulus is given in controlled measures at appropriate ages. They are introduced to children, cats and other dogs, noises, and countless types of toys and puppy-sized agility exercises.
Puppies are weaned onto a raw diet and goat's milk in order to give them the highest quality nutrition while they are in such a critical growth period. Prior to going to their new homes, they are introduced to Iams Puppy food.
Before we place a pup, we ask lots of questions about what you hope to do with a pup, what your lifestyle and day-to-day life is like. When pups are seven weeks old, they are evaluated for personality and temperament, and every effort is made to place the best-suited pup for your family.
Temperament testing is a very scientific, yet subjective evaluation of the natural temperament traits a pup is born with. "Pick" puppy is *always* in the eye of the beholder. Your Pick pup may be a go-getter with tons of energy, while another family's Pick may be a couch potato. Traits are evaluated based on assertiveness, shyness, trainability, and conformation.
Visit our puppy page to see our pups. From time to time, we also have rescue dogs available.
